Hamilton SP RFC 2023

Hamilton Sea Point Rugby Football Club was established on 14 March 1875, making us the oldest rugby club in South Africa. We are situated on the Green Point common under the shadows of the Cape Town Stadium.

We enter our 148th year with gratitude and huge excitement for the rugby year that lies ahead.

Head Coach Robert Olivier and his coaching team run two structured practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Our Strength and Conditioning coach and medical support team ensure that our players are kept in top condition for the season.

We are looking forward to a full season this year and will have our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and U20A teams playing in the WP Super A League. This year we have entered a 5th side and U20B team, along with the Dynamiter 4ths to the WP Reserve League. This is the first time in many years that Hamilton have been able to field seven sides – a sign of a healthy club.

Our juniors, the future our club, have proven to be worthy competitors of the best rugby schools in the Cape. Adrian Kay heads up the dedicated coaching team and they are looking forward to another cracker of a season this year. Our juniors cater for boys from 6 to 14 years of age – This year our junior division expanded to accommodate an U14 team – exciting stuff.

Let the season begin!

Tour to France

We are super excited and proud to have been invited to the first World Amateur Rugby Festival taking place in France in September 2023.

The World Amateur Club Rugby Festival will bring together 20 amateur clubs from the 20 of the world’s greatest rugby nations. For the first time in the history of the World Cup, amateur rugby will have an official place and lighting.

The first world amateur rugby tournament will take place in 7 host cities of the Southern Region from 22 September to 1 October 2023.

This tournament is a way to bring together all 600 players from the 20 participating countries to celebrate amateur club rugby. The level will be homogeneous and the competition very contested, but all in a spirit of brotherhood.

Hamilton, the only club representing South Africa, will be playing in Pool B, against Ireland, Tonga, Romania and Scotland.

We will be taking a group of 35, including players and management to France. Special arrangements have been made to accommodate supporters too.

All the games will be broadcast either on television or via a livestream.

We look forward to flying the South African flag high and building great relationships with our international club brothers.

There are still sponsorship opportunities available. For more information, please contact our chairman at mike@mjrconsult.co.za
