As we approach the June break in the SLA it has become a difficult task keeping the players focused at practice and on the task at hand.
On Saturday we faced the bottom of the table Helderberg in the Strand in what turned out to be an extremely one sided affair.
Our management team of Marius Cornelissen , Niekkie Viljoen, Keshia Petersen, Jon Rapheal, Mike Stakemire, Dr Sid Allie and Mike McInerney have been doing a striking job keeping the injured players on the field , managing player load and working hard on the psychological edge as we look to prepare for our match against SA Club Champions Durbell next week.
Our approach for the weekend was to judge ourselves based on performance and not on the result which allowed the players to work on executing our game plan and focusing on individual roles.
We did this with aplomb on Saturday against a tenacious Helderberg side you were totally outgunned and muscled by our rampant 1st XV.
We raced over for 5 tries in the first half to lead 33-6 at half time with Niel Cleghorn , Chris Cloete, Jandre Du Plessis and Earl Lewis attacking with zest and flair sealing the bonus point.
Monty Dumond conducted the play well dictating the tune of play as we unleashed what must have been the best second half display of the year as we scored a further 71 points to end up 104-11 winners.
An excellent team performance -Scrums were solid , Line outs functioned smoothly creating the platform for Jason Marcus and the rest of his backs to play off the quality first phase possession.
Another 5 pointer but we have sterner opposition in the coming weeks , they will pose a threat but it will remain to be seen how they contain this confident Hamilton machine that is in a rampant mood.
