The fixture lived up to it’s status of being the top of the table clash , spectators flocked into the Bay with the the crowd swelling to close on 4000 by the time the game kicked off.
The match itself was a see saw affair as the Bay took an early lead and the crossed for 2 tries in the first half.
The first after a quick tap by Dylan Frylinck saw the score out wide.
The first after a quick tap by Dylan Frylinck saw the score out wide.
The second was a fortuitous one as a poor receipt off a kick off lead to a couple of lucky bounces which saw veteran centre Byron Mohr gather to go over untouched..
To our credit we fought back despite playing into the wind as Harlon Klaasen scored a brace before half time. His first after the pack was cut short driving superbly from a line out. Some effective slow ball management sucked in the defence which allowed Monty Dumond to release Klaasen as he stepped would be defenders to dot down.
His second was probably the try of the match after a great set phase move sent Earl Lewis free. His neat chip ahead was gathered by Klaasen to put Hamilton’s into the lead.
The second half was a huge defensive affair as both sides got stuck into each other. Hamiltons extended the lead to 24-17 but a try off a drive saw False Bay tie it up to 24-24 with minutes to play.
After losing a player to the sin bin we showed get steel on defence as False Bay sensed the possibility of a last gasp victory.
With at least 10minutes of injury time the whistle finally went. The draw perhaps a fair reflection however Rugby was the undoubtable winner on the day.
