“Seccies” finish preseason with a comprehensive win!

Hamilton SP RFC completed their preseason preparation for the 2015 WP Super “A” rugby season with a “Friday Lights” outing at Durbell RFC.  Hammies – “Seccies”, 3rd and u/20 A & u/20-Reserve teams travelled to Durbanville on Friday and came back with three  wins from four games. Our u/20Reserve team won their opening WP u/20 Reserve League game against last year’s winners, Durbell –  with a solid 13 – 3 win, while our u/20 A lost 9 – 3 to very competitive Durbell u/20 A. Once again our the 3rd XV came back after been down 10 – 0 with a comeback of note and a last minutes intercept try by Dugald Robertson to defeat their 3rd team 17 – 10.

Our 2nd XV played against Durbell RFC 2nd XV in the main match of the evening and silenced the home crowd with some terrific running rugby in the first half. Two fantastic tries from Ryan Johnson (Wing) from superb running back movements started the early dominance by Hammies, a try by Marnus Coetzee (Flank) from a rolling maul and after another period of several phases that setup a fourth try from Lohan Lubbe (Fullback) gave  Hammies-“Seccies” a deserved first half lead of 24 – 10.

In the second half Durbell came back strongly and it was our defence that stood tall during several periods of the half that kept Durbell at bay. Each team scored a converted try in the second half and once again Hammies “Seccies” held firm and won the game rather comfortably 31 – 17.

A very good solid all-round performance that should get the confidence levels up with our opening league fixture away to Vic’s on Saturday. Let’s go HAMMIES!

Our point’s scorers against Durbell were – Tries by Marnus Coetzee (Flank), Ryan Johnson (Wing) with 2 tries and Lohan Lubbe (Fullback) with 2 tries and 3 conversions = 16 points for the game.
