Primrose vs Hammies 1st XV – Match Report

Interesting outing on Saturday as we took on a a determined Primrose away from home at there home ground in Rosmead. Always an intimidating arena and it lived up to this with Hamiltons having to work exceptionally hard for the win.

Primrose playing with the wind in the first half defended like Trojans and threw themselves at everything that Hamiltons had to offer stifling attack after attack with resolute defense.

It was wasn’t until late in the the half that Hamiltons finally breached their try line as Janno Van Zyl and Jacques Oostuisen crossed for tries to give Hamiltons a 14-0 lead.

Hamiltons controlled the play as we spent over 30 minutes in their half despite playing into the stiff breeze.

Just after half time we went to uncontested scrums as Primrose picked up their second injury in the front row and this halted our domination in the set phases and equaled the playing fields. Our conditioning and composure shone through as we countered their efforts which was 2 unconverted tries with a further 3 of our own.

We played 25 minutes with 14 men after repeated infringements saw Francois Esterhuisen get his second yellow of the game.

All in all it was a solid bonus point win away from home under trying circumstances.

Credit to Jandre Du Plessis centre who dovetailed as hooker hitting 4 out of 5 a really special effort after both our front line hookers where off the park.[wpvideo HVLUWnGg]
