Player Profile: Wonga Koti

The first of our U20’s to be featured, Wonga Koti plays for the U20A side at 8th Man. Having been a loosie all his rugby career he is a talented athlete playing both hockey and basketball.

In fact not only did he play but represented Western Province in both Hockey (as a goalkeeper) and Basketball. In Grade 9 Wonga took the decision to focus on rugby and has since then had a season at UWC after school before joining Hammies.

Best Rugby Memories:

“Scoring my first try as a young boy. Another that sticks with me is going the through all the rounds at the Craven Week trials”

Wonga talks about his rugby journey and what motivates him –

“I played a rugby when I was really young but then I stopped because my primary school didn’t have any rugby and I had to join other sports , I played hockey which I represented WP until u14 , I decided in grade 9 I will go back rugby and have played ever since.

My passion for rugby runs deep my uncle, Msimelelo Koti, played for SARU, WPRB and Border- I hope have the opportunity to play further up the ranks and possibly professional one day.”
