After coming off a comprehensive win against UniMil last week, the U20A’s were determined to keep this winning momentum going. With a delayed start to the game, we took some time to get the momentum going.
Primrose were the first to put points on the board after numerous penalties conceded by the U20A’s led to the Primose fly half to convert the penalty. Our youngsters knew they had to be patient in their attack and play to open spaces and set the phases. It didn’t take long before we started to play some exciting rugby.
Scrummie Bendre Jonck scored the first try, shortly after that burly loose forward Wonga Koti. The pack dominated at scrum time by managing to get several tight heads. The space was out on the wings so we started to spread the ball out wide and winger Liam Stevenson showed us his lighting fast speed to score the third try in the corner.
Halftime 19 – 3 to Hamiltons
After the half time huddle, the instructions were to keep it basic and have patience. The defense was unbreakable, there were some big hits by the loose trio and centre pairing of Ettiene Spies and Malan Barnard were formidable on defense.
The game started to open up and the team scored three quick tries by Malan Barnard, Siphe Qolo and Matthew De Villiers.
Primrose fought back and managed to score their first try after a quick tap and go. With a few minutes to go, the U20A’s wanted more tries and centre Malan Barnard delivered and scored a wonderful individual try.
Flyhalf Matthew De Villiers was brilliant with the boot after converting 5/7 of his conversions and his tactical kicking during the game was clinical.
Final score 45 – 10 to Hamiltons Man of the match was awarded to Malan Barnard for his two brilliant try’s and his hard work on defense.
