Hammies vs Wesbank – Community Cup QF Preview

There is plenty of excitement in the air as all the Community Cup Finals teams making their way to Rustenberg for the 2015 Cell C Community Cup Play Offs.

Last year in George we earned 3rd place with a dominant 3rd/4th place performance over a strong College Rovers. This year, however, we look to better that and win the tournament.

Hammies had an interesting run of form getting through to the play offs with a narrow win in Kathu, against Sishen. A nail biting 40-40 draw against Wanderers at home followed by a come from behind victory in Worcester over Worcester Villagers. These results piled the pressure on the team making our final pool game, against a good Evergreens side, a must win and essentially a top 16 play off battle. Winner goes through and loser is knocked out.
Finally we hit our straps and ran out comfortable winners in a game that was a lot tighter than the scoreboard suggested.

The focus has now shifted to this coming weekend where we need to win 3 tough games in 5 days if we want to be crowned Champions. On Thursday we open up the weekends tournament against our neighbours from Malmesbury, Wesbank.

We welcome back Morgan Newman who partners Richard Lawson in the Centre’s and a change at Fullback see’s Earl Lewis start in the 15 jumper moving Pierre Cronje to the bench.

Kick off is at 10am Thursday April 2 and it will be televised on SuperSport.
