From one top of the table clash to another as we move away from a valuable 5 point haul against False Bay and focus on a club that are the most successful SLA club around, Maties.
The students have now moved into 2nd spot on the table after an emphatic win over current club champs, DurBell. Stellenbosch still have 2 games in hand on us and are 13 points behind, so a win for them would be huge. All this considering False Bay beat them in the opening game of the season.
A win for us will be a big step in the right direction in our goal to win the WP SLA competition for the second time in 6 years. Having targeted this group of 3 games (False Bay, Maties, UCT) for the season we know that this is where the big push comes.
With the focus solely on beating the students tomorrow we must take the time to congratulate Pierre Cronje as he makes his 100th appearance for the club. After earning his 1st XV badge 2008 he hasn’t looked back and has covered many positions for us notably at 9 & 15. Exciting from depth many would argue that being more available to attack from 15 is his best position. An integral part of our 1st Team, Community Cup Squads and the Club as a whole, we would like to congratulate Pierre on this great achievement.
With our 2nds & 3rds losing to False Bay this past weekend an extra push is needed to keep both DurBell & UCT at bay in those respective leagues. The 3rd team have it all to do with a draw and a loss in the season, so an unbeaten streak to end the season is needed. The Seccies have to do the same but a win tomorrow & next Wednesday against the Ikey 2nd XV will allow for an easier finish having only fallen to one loss this season.
Please come down to the club tomorrow to support Hammies and some good club rugby as we get the games underway from 13h35.
