Our 3rd Team started off proceedings on the unofficial Derby Day fixture against Villager as we took them on in our first league meeting since 2013.
Night games are always tough and playing at home against a determined Villager side with a point to prove was always going to be a challenge on a very chilly night at Stephan Way.
The match started off well with our Thirds having plenty of possession but were stopped by a resolute defence as well as a case of white line fever as they tried a little too much and neglected to stay focused on the basics.
Douw Krugman provided some great front foot ball for Sean Simpkins to unleash his deadly backline. The big number 8 ran with purpose as he and his brother, Emil Krugman, partnered with the other loosie, Bradley Ndlovu, provided decent charges into the Villager defence.
A strong end to the first half earn us a comfortable lead. the second half proved a bridge too far to cross for Villager as our 3rds started taking control in the right areas. Final score 41-5 and a valuable 5 points gained off the old enemy
