Rugby honours and achievements:
Life member at Hammies, a humbling moment
Club Chairman for over 10 years
Favourite Hammies moment: Seeing players, members and supporters enjoying a couple of cold ones on match days.
Favourite Hammies legend and why: Stevie Ray, a hundred games for Hammies and he is still going strong for the Dynamiters on the international circuit. He also made Dean Berry the player he used to be.
Most memorable rugby moment: There were many, but a few that stood out. Losing to Maties in 2008 in the 84th minute, after Jandré scored, what we believed was the winning try in the 81st minute, to finish runners up in the Grand Challenge. Terry Jacobs scoring at Coetzenburg. Alshaun Bock scoring at the green mile to win the Grand Challenge in 2009. The big one, winning the National Club Championship in 2009, beating Pukke at Loftus. This was also the last year the universities took part in the competition. It’s time for some silverware again!
What movie character describes you best, and why? Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets. He is a funny man and has a great sense of humour in that movie.
Something you don’t know about me: I can say “yes” too.
Likes: Enthusiasm
Dislikes: Negativity
Funniest moment on the field: The referee stopping the game to enable everyone to help our prop to find his glass eye that popped out – my daughters would say it was a cringe moment.
Favourite rugby player of all time: Carel du Plessis
Goals for 2021: To get the show on the road
