First team take home 5 points with 14 men

The trip to Kuilsrivier proved  a tougher encounter than originally expected as the home team mounted a series of attacks against a lackluster Hamiltons outfit in the first stanza.

Despite Hamiltons easing into a 12-0 lead through tries by Ryan Johnson and Gareth Rowe we failed to control the ball in contact and in general play and were fortunate to go into half time 19-18 up.
We discussed our approach as we turned with the wind , it was made even worse as we lost Freddie Muller with a red card and had to nullify the fighting spirit of the Kuilsrivier team with 14 men.
We tightened the game and gradually squeezed the life out of home teams forwards as our pack successfully drove over for 3 tries in the second half. They scored against the run of play through an intercept after Wella Samuels had sprinted clear only to see his pass snapped up inside their 22.
With 10 minutes to go we surged ahead and ran out 50-32 victors.
We allowed our opponents into the game and will need to focus more on our control of the ball if we want to avoid this in the future.
It was good to see the senior players stand up in the 2nd half Morgan Newman , Monty Dumond and Shane Vallender controlled play well while Greg Van Jaarsveldt and Gareth Rowe kept our focus on the ball.
Another 5 points in the bag however we will need to focus on aspects of our game going into our fixture at home on Saturday.
