Crushing defeat to DurBell before the mid season break

Hammies trip to Durbanville on Friday night is one that we will rather put behind us and refocus on what lies ahead. The club made a trip to DurBell on a chilly Friday night in a game that would end the first half of the season for us before a long break.

We started off well enough playing some excellent rugby to take a 25-3 lead with 25 minutes played. A quickfire 3 tries opened up a comfortable lead against the Community Cup Champions
One would have thought that we have been able to close out the game from there however the next 55 minutes proved to be a bit of a horror show. After losing some concentration we allowed DurBell back into the game as we held a 1 point lead at half time 24-25 to us at the break.
Durbanville launched wave after wave of attack , our first time defence was found wanting and our commitment and will to win where questioned. Once over the advantage line DurBell’s clinical attack kept us back peddling as we tried to scramble in defence.
Our highly motivated hosts outplayed us and won the game comfortably 55-34. A tough evening of rugby for us but a comprehensive win for DurBell and hats off to them on a brilliant performance.
We head into the mid season break now and look to return rejuvenated and focused for the last half of the season.
