Cape Town 10’s 2015 Recap:

The Annual Cape Town 10’s has come and gone and what a fantastic weekend it was. We have been the proud venue of this great event since inception 7 years ago. The one thing that has eluded us was a title but this year, we hoped would a a little different. We have always been represented at the tournament by 2 or more teams and 2015 was no different with our 1st Team entering a side in the Premier Division and the Dynamiters entering a side in the Vets Division. However, with a late team withdrawal in the Premier division we had the opportunity to enter 2 sides and grabbed it with both hands. Premier Division: The pool consisted of 8 teams and each would play 7 games (against all the sides) and the top 2 and the end of the pool stages would play each other in the final There were a number of close games for the 1st’s  in the pool stages but they were strong enough to win every one including a narrow 1 point victory against the WP side. The Hammies 2nd Team had a tough tournament and considering they were put together at the last minute did exceptionally well and gained valuable experience using the tournament as an extended preseason run ahead of the WP Super League A season.

The final was a hotly contested affair between Hammies 1st’s & Ikey 1st’s and finished in a 5-0 victory to us granting us our first ever CT10’s Tournament Victory and the first ‘silverware’ for the year.  This has been a great springboard for the players and coaching staff ahead of the upcoming Community Cup – Congratulations to all involved Go and view our Gallery of the Takealot 10’s Premier Final here Vets Division: Dynamiters Team The Dynamiters were drawn in an extremely tough pool this year and they needed to get wins under their belt from the get go facing the likes of Ola, DurBell Rollers & SA Legends. After the first game loss to Ola Ice cream who sported players such as De Wet Barry, Thinus Delport & Phillip Burger  the Dynamiters went on to beat DurBell and needing an unlikely win against SA Legends and old Hammies boys Egon Seconds & Clint van Rensburg. The Dynamiters were leading that game for a bit and just as they got their hopes up the SA Legends turned on the charm and ran in a few more tries.

With the Dynamiters finishing 3rd all they had to play for was the Bowl and they took that challenge with both hands. The early Saturday morning start proved a problem due to a few injuries and many a sore head from the evening celebrations but they managed to beat Norfolk & Chance as well as Old Dalian Herons on the way to a final against False Bay. The final proved a match too far for the Bay Legends as the Dynamiters were just hitting their stride and ran out comfortable winners. Well done to the side and the management (Martin Tucker, Steve Ray & Dino Peros) who are mostly all off to Bangkok for an Old Crocks tournament in a fortnight.
