Saturday was to be the biggest test we have faced so far this season. False Bay are always a hard team to play at The Bay.
We had gone into this game unbeaten but False Bay had not conceded a try in their last 6 games. There had been quite a bit of banter between the teams through the week as False Bay had a few Hammies old boys and family of Hammies players which just added to the excitement of the game.
We started the first half a bit slow and conceded a penalty that was converted in the opening five minutes. After that we upper the intensity of our game and played some of the best rugby we have seen in a few years. We scored 6 tries in the first half through some fantastic team interplay. In some cases going through over 8 phases to score.
The pressure we applied in the first half was unrelenting and we continuously caused False Bay to turn over possession which we converted in to 5 pointers. False Bay made 5 changes at half time and they attempted to up their intensity for the game. We missed too many tackles in the second half and allowed them to score two tries.
We finished our try scoring with a fantastic bit of skill between Fly Half Siya Alam and Prop Bantu Mene.
The Final score was 45 v 15 to Hammies.
This was a great team performance but on the efforts of the second half we still have lots of work to do for our remaining games.
Tries:
Dean Basson, Marnitz Jacobs, Keenan Jacobs (2), Marlo Weich, (2), Bantu Mene

Siya Alam (5)
