In a stop start affair at Hamilton’s the home team struggled to find momentum as the visitors slowed the ball and play down at every available opportunity to keep themselves in the game.
The 1st XV were guilty of forcing play and being over zealous with ball in hand, letting themselves down as the execution on the day was by their standards below par.
Despite the above it was still a game that needed to be won and one that we triumphed in convincingly. We led 31-0 15 minutes into the second half before a couple of rash decisions allowed allowed Sir Lowrians to sniff the potential of sneaking a bonus point as a victory for them was never a likely possibility.
An intercept and a long kick and chase from deep in their half after we had spilled the ball with the try line beckoning saw Shane Vallender tweak his hamstring in an effort to get back which allowed them to gather and score untouched.
There were some exciting moments and good tries scored none better than Harlon Klaassen’s 2nd try afar a perfectly executed set phase move off a line out saw Jacques Oostuisen offload to the flying centre whose angle and timing flummoxed the defence as he raced over with visitors defence in tatters.
Klaassen eventually scored a hat-trick on the day cementing his reputation as a quality finisher.
We had shuffled the team around on the day as we looked to rest and give some players game much needed game time in order to keep us fresh avoid our substitutes from being rusty later in the season.
15 points from 3 outings we know our area’s of focus and will keep striving towards that perfect match but for now we will take the win and shift our attentions to new comers NNK this Friday.
