The SLA season kicked off with a potentially tough encounter out in Stellenbosch against Victorians.
The team had discussed area’s that we felt needed to be addressed in the build up and took a positive step in the right direction on Saturday.
A resounding demolition of Victorian’s is what took place as we executed our game plan magnificently. We sped up the game which caught the students off guard with Monty Dumond and debutant scrum half Jason Marcus leading the onslaught.
Jano Van Zyl was the chief benefactor scoring his hat trick in this opening stanza as we raced into a 31 – 0 lead.
Our set phases functioned well giving us quality first phase possession however it was our ability to capitalise on turnovers that proved to be the catalyst as we exploited very turnover.
Loose Forwards Gareth Rowe and Jacques Oostuisen hunted well and pressurised the students as they were isolated enabling Hamiltons to poach ball at will.
The brand of rugby was great to watch as we scored a total of 11 tries as we romped to a 73-24 victory.
A comprehensive team performance was the the final outcome and great to get the 5 points away from home.
