Second XV see off Belhar in style

On another beautiful day for rugby at Stephan way, the Hamilton’s 2nd XV carried on against Belhar where they left off against Brackenfell. Even with a week’s break between games they managed to keep the momentum.

The platform was set by the forward who keep the Belhar defence active throughout the first half with plenty of ball carries to the line. The continuous pressure lead to some great line breaks by both the backs and forwards. The interlinking play by the whole team, lead to some fantastic tries and gave Hamilton’s a 24 – 0 lead at the half time break.

During the half time break our Referee for the day Mr Khwezi Mqomboti had to be replaced by the 3rd team referee after sustaining and injury to his ankle.

This did not disrupted the flow of the game, as Hamilton’s continued to apply pressure to the Belhar defence. With the inclusion of the fresh legs from the bench Hamilton’s ran in another 4 tries in the second half.

There were a few individual performances that stood out. Robbie Trueman lead by example with great running lines and line breaks, Lohann Louw controlled the lineout with 4 turnovers and the backs scored some excellent tries with Ryan Johnson and Dugald Robertson both getting a brace.

Final Score 48 v 10.

It was great to welcome back Pierre “The Rock” Cronje back onto the field after an extended absence due to injury. He came through his first run back with flying colours.

This is the first step in a hard 4 week programme for Hamilton’s and we will have to keep building on the efforts as we head into another tough fixture against Tygerberg away in our next Match.
